FAQ

  • We consider DriveSafe to be Colorado's best value in driver's education for several reasons

1.) Flexible Schedules: Students can take classes in any order that best fits their busy lives. Other schools require students to adhere to a rigid schedule that may not meet their needs.

2.) Convenience: Students can take classes at any of our three locations on weeknights, weekends, and during school breaks, and they can make up missed classes at any time and place. Other schools have limited class options and rigid make-up policies. Also, unlike at other programs, with us you'll never have to wait very long to schedule a driving lesson.

3.) Private Instruction: All of our behind-the-wheel lessons are private, one-on-one. Other schools drive with two or more students in a vehicle so that they can "observe" other students. We believe their time is best spent practicing with the undivided attention of their instructor.

4.) Experience: As Colorado's longest running program, all of our instructors have year's of professional driving and teaching experience. Many other schools are small start-up operations with limited experience, expertise, and resources.

5.) Added Value: We offer (and encourage) stick shift training as part of our program at no extra cost. Other schools don't have it or charge an additional fee for it.

6.) Price/Value: Some programs charge more than $800! (compared with $399 for our Comprehensive Course). Those that charge less offer much less.

  • When can my teenager begin driver's education classes and get his/her learner's permit?

In the State of Colorado teens can begin the classroom portion of their driver's education at 14 years, 6 months of age. Upon completing the required 30 hour classroom course, reaching his/her 15th birthday, and passing the written permit test, your child will be eligible to receive an instruction permit.

  • When can my child get his/her license?

During the 12 months after receiving a learner's permit, your child will need to complete 6 hours of Behind-The-Wheel instruction with a certified driving school in addition to providing a driving log demonstrating 50 hours of behind-the-wheel driving time (with a parent or guardian) including 10 hours of night driving. Once these requirements have been met, your child will be able to test for his/her license (either with us or at the DMV).

  • Is the Written Permit Test included in your program?

Yes. Our Comprehensive Course includes the permit test at no extra cost. Students are eligible to take it after they have completed the 10th class (and have reached 15 years of age). Students can arrange with our office staff to take the Permit Test once their classes are completed.

  • How do DriveSafe classes work?

The program is divided into 10 three hour classes, each of which conveys important information. Session 10 must be taken as the final session. Other than that, it’s fine to take the classes in any order that is convenient. We ask that your child arrive to class on time, pay attention, and maintain good behavior throughout the course.

Session 1: Eight Pathways, Driver Handbook, Sample Test
Session 2: Your are the Driver, Signs, Signals & Roadway Markings
Session 3: Basic Car Control, Making Safe Driving Decisions
Session 4: Natural Laws of Car Control, Basic Car Maneuvers
Session 5: Negotiating Intersections, Sharing the Road
Session 6: Driving in Urban Areas, Rural Areas and Expressways
Session 7: Driving in Adverse Conditions, Handling Emergencies
Session 8: Effects and Conditions of Risk Taking/Alcohol, Other Drugs and Driving
Session 9: Responsiblities of Owning and Maintaining your Vehicle
Session 10: 50 Question Review, Driving Quiz, and Final Exam

  • Will the Behind-the-Wheel instruction be in your car or ours?

All Behind-the-Wheel instruction is done in our cars which are equipped with dual brakes and mirrors to give the instructor control of the vehicle, if necessary. Driver's tests can be conducted in your car or one of ours (depending upon availability of our car at that time).

  • What is the cancellation fee for scheduled drives?

As a courtesy to our drivers we charge a $35 cancellation fee for all students who fail to show for their lesson without calling to cancel atleast 24 hours in advance.

  • What is the class extension policy?

Students can pay a fee of $49 for a 3 month extension of their enrollment. The enrollment period is one year from their enrollment date for those enrolled at or after age 15 or, for those who enrolled prior to age 15, the enrollment period ends at their 16th birthday.

  • Is DriveSafe affiliated with the Mini Rates that closed last year in Wheat Ridge?

No, DriveSafe had no relationship whatsoever with the named school that shut down last year. In fact, in an effort to help families whose driver education was disrupted by the closure, we reached out to the community by offering driving lessons to affected students at heavily discounted rates.
